141 passengers caught in ticketless travel crackdown on Katra-Pathankot route; Rs 1.06 lakh fine recovered
As part of the continuous drive against ticketless and irregular travel in Jammu Division, an intensive ticket checking drive was conducted on 26th August, 2026 in the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) to Pathankot Cantt (PTKC) rail section.
This drive was conducted under the able leadership of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal.
For this drive, a special team of 15 ticket checking staff of the Commercial Department was constituted, who carried out intensive checks simultaneously in various Mail/Express trains running on this section. Under Section 138 of the Indian Railways Act 1989, a total of 141 persons were apprehended while travelling without ticket, without proper authority and on irregular tickets, from whom an amount of approximately Rs. 1,06,345/- was recovered as fine after taking action as per rules.
On this occasion, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, “The main objective of Jammu Division is to provide safe, comfortable and rule-bound travel facility to all its esteemed passengers. The purpose of the ticket checking drive is not to harass anyone, but to create awareness among passengers to travel with a valid ticket only. Travelling without ticket not only causes financial loss to the Railways, but also causes inconvenience to the passengers travelling with valid tickets. We appeal to all our passengers to use the UTS on Mobile App and the newly launched RailOne App to avoid queues at the railway station, through which they can book unreserved and reserved tickets from home itself.”
Such ticket checking drives are conducted from time to time in Jammu Division, so that ticketless travellers can be checked and people can also be made aware through this drive to travel with a valid ticket during their journey, so that other passengers do not face any inconvenience.
Jammu Division will continue to conduct such intensive ticket checking drives in future as well for the convenience of passengers and revenue protection.
