15 years on, no appointment from sports quota in J&K Govt jobs

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Thursday said that the government will soon come out with a policy to recruit sportsmen in the government services.

There has been no appointment from sports quota for the past over 15 years as the issue was under legal dispute, said the Chief Secretary.

He said that as per the directions of the court, five new sports will be added in the eligibility for recruitment from sports quota.

Chief Secretary was speaking at the press conference that was addressed by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha in Jammu.

In another interesting announcement made by the Lt Governor, the UT government has launched a scheme of pothole free roads in entire Jammu and Kashmir.

The scheme will be applicable from the state headquarter to the block level. Besides roads leading to tourist spots will also be made pothole free for the convenience of visitors.

The Lt Governor said that the scheme has already been launched in the Jammu division and tendering process was on in the Kashmir valley.

Replying to questions the Lt Governor said that the legacy of discrimination in development of tourist spots of Jammu has been removed and due attention was being given to promote these places.

He said that the negative impact caused due to discrimination cannot be overcome overnight but steps were being taken to bring the tourist spots of Jammu on the tourism map of J&K.
