2 Captains, 2 Havaldars killed in Kalakote encounter, Major & 2 jawans critically injured

Two Captains and two Havaldars of the Indian Army were killed and a Major and two jawans were critically injured today in an ongoing gunfight in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district.

Sources said that two Army Captains of 63 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and two Havaldars were killed while the injured were shifted to military hospital at Udhampur.

Senior Army and Police officers have reached the spot to steer the operation against terrorists.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu Range) Anand Jain said that an encounter has started between terrorists and joint forces of the Army and J&K Police in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal in the Rajouri district. Two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the cordon, he added.

A team of the Army and Police launched a cordon and search operation in the area on a specific intelligence input about presence of terrorists in the forest area. As the joint team approached towards the suspected area, the hiding terrorists fired upon them.
