2-kg timer fixed IED found on highway in Jammu

A timer fixed tiffin box 2-kg improvised explosive device (IED) was today found by the police in Jammu on the strategic Jammu–Srinagar bypass after which the traffic on the stretch was suspended as a precautionary measure. The IED was detonated by the bomb disposal squad.

Police said “the tiffin box timer based Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was on Saturday found in Jammu area after which it has been taken into possession and further investigation is going on”. 

Police said that on Saturday at around 5:30 PM, an information was received by police that some suspicious object was lying on Sidhra-Narwal highway stretch in Jammu near a police checkpoint.

Over this, police said, a team of police alongwith Police Component Jammu, Dog squad rushed to the spot and on search of suspicious material, it was found to be a Tiffin Box timer based IED weighing around two kilograms. It has now been taken into possession after successful detonation.

A case under relevant sections of law have been registered in police station and further investigation is going on. Further details are awaited.
