2 officers, Army jawan killed in Kalakote encounter

Two officers and a jawan of the Indian Army were killed and one jawan of elite para forces was critically injured today in an ongoing gunfight in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district.

Sources said that two Army officer of 63 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and a jawan were killed while one personnel of elite 9 Para was injured and shifted to military hospital.

Senior Army and Police officers have reached the spot to steer the operation against terrorists.

Inspector General of Police (Jammu Range) Anand Jain said that an encounter has started between terrorists and joint forces of the Army and J&K Police in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal in the Rajouri district. Two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the cordon, he added.

A team of the Army and Police launched a cordon and search operation in the area on a specific intelligence input about presence of terrorists in the forest area. As the joint team approached towards the suspected area, the hiding terrorists fired upon them.
