31 ticketless persons travelling in Vande Bharat caught by rail staff; Rs.80,000 fine recovered

To curb ticketless and irregular travel, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway periodically conducts intensive and surprise ticket checking drives.

Continuing this initiative, a surprise ticket checking drive was conducted today, January 6th, on Vande Bharat Train No. 22478 by a team led by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, which included Assistant Commercial Managers, Commercial Inspectors, and ticket checking staff.

This surprise ticket checking drive was conducted on Vande Bharat Train No. 22478 from Jammu to Ludhiana.

During this drive, approximately 31 passengers were apprehended who did not possess valid tickets or travel authority.

Strict action was taken against all these unauthorized passengers under the Railways Act, 1989. A total fine of approximately Rs. 80,000 was recovered from these passengers.

Regarding this surprise ticket checking drive, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Uchit Singhal, stated, “The railways encourage passengers to travel with valid tickets, especially on premium trains, as the penalties for ticketless travel on premium trains like Vande Bharat are higher compared to regular trains. Ticketless travel not only causes revenue loss to the railways but also infringes upon the rights of passengers with valid tickets.”
