Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, Police have seized 08 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in Ganderbal and Shopian.
In Ganderbal, Police seized 02 vehicles carrying illegally extracted construction minerals in the jurisdiction of PS Ganderbal. The vehicles were intercepted by a police team during routine patrolling and checking. Upon inspection, the vehicles were found transporting mining material without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed norms. Accordingly, both vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was taken up with the concerned Geology & Mining Department, which subsequently imposed the requisite fine under the relevant provisions of law Police said.
Similarly in Shopian, during patrolling, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted three tractors engaged in illegal mining activities without mandatory permissions. In this regard FIR No. 13/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and further investigation has been initiated. In another action in the same area, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib intercepted three tractors involved in the unauthorized extraction of minerals. Accordingly, FIR No. 14/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib and investigation is underway.
Police reiterated its commitment to curb illegal mining activities in the district and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources. Strict action will continue against those found indulging in such unlawful practices.
