Athletes flocking to Bakshi stadium in Kashmir to avail international-standard facilities after more than a decade

After getting through a massive renovation with upgraded facilities, historic Bakshi Stadium in Kashmir has penetrated its reach for Kashmiri athletes. After the refurbishment of stadium, youth and professional teams come for daily trainings in stadium.

 The historic stadium in Srinagar, which had earlier hosted important functions and celebrations, including Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations, has been upgraded and equipped with world-class facilities which are at par with FIFA standards.

The stadium’s upgrade and refurbishment began in 2016 on the orders of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The refurbished stadium was launched in front of sportspeople on August 5 by Lieutenant Governor J&K, Manoj Sinha.

After so many years, the regular physical training sessions have started in the stadium, and hundreds of martial artists are coming to the facility to make use of its amenities.  A footballer player told Greater Kashmir that the stadium exudes an international vibe.

Another athlete stated that he is returning to the stadium after more than eight years away.

Another player said that it has been refurbished on a grand scale.

Joint Secretary J&K Sports Council Bashir Ahmad said that it is a major milestone in the history of J&K sports and Bakshi Stadium has been upgraded to make it fit to host any top-level football matches and added that the facilities are the best and it is an asset now for the sportspersons.
