Srinagar :- A bone-chilling cold wave has enveloped the Kashmir Valley, Jammu, and Ladakh, plunging temperatures to sub-zero levels. Srinagar, the summer capital of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of -2.0°C, while Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, shivered at -4.8°C.
The harsh winter has also gripped Ladakh, with Leh recording a freezing -8.8°C. Kargil followed closely at -7.9°C. Drass, known as the second coldest inhabited place on Earth, is expected to have experienced even lower temperatures, though data is currently unavailable.
In Jammu, the winter chill has also set in, with the minimum temperature dipping to 8.4°C in the city. Banihal and Bhaderwah recorded temperatures of 3.2°C and 1.4°C, respectively.
Padder in Kishtwar district witnessed a sub-zero temperature of -3.5°C.As the cold wave intensifies, residents and tourists in the region are advised to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the biting cold.
The authorities have issued advisories to people, especially the elderly and children, to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary exposure to the cold.The drop in temperatures is expected to boost winter tourism in the region, with Gulmarg and Pahalgam emerging as popular destinations for snow lovers. However, the harsh weather conditions may also pose challenges for travelers, especially those venturing into higher altitudes.
