Srinagar police seize 8 kilograms of heroin, two arrested

Srinagar :- In a significant victory against drug trafficking, Srinagar Police successfully apprehended two individuals and seized a substantial quantity of heroin during a checkpoint operation at Barthana Crossing in Qamarwari. Acting on a tip-off, a police team from Police Post Qamarwari intercepted a Tata Sumo (registration no. JK05D-1837) for inspection. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6 kilograms of heroin concealed beneath the driver’s seat.

Further investigation revealed an additional 2 kilograms of heroin hidden in polythene bags within the possession of the suspects.The apprehended individuals have been identified as Anas Ajaz Awan, a resident of Dildar Tangdar, Kupwara, and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, hailing from Channipora Tangdar, Kupwara. The recovered narcotics, along with the vehicle used for transportation, have been seized by the police.

A formal case has been registered at Police Station Parimpora under FIR No. 03/2025, invoking sections 8/21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

SSP Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain, addressed the media in a press conference, emphasizing the police department’s unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking within the region. He highlighted the successful operation as a testament to their relentless efforts in curbing the menace of drug abuse. SSP Hussain also urged the public to actively cooperate with the police in creating a drug-free society by providing any information or suspicions regarding drug-related activities.
