‘What did BJP and NC deliver for Jammu?’: Mehbooba Mufti’s sharp attack

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday launched a scathing attack on both the BJP and the National Conference (NC), accusing them of failing to deliver on peace, development, and employment in Jammu and Kashmir despite being handed massive electoral mandates.

Addressing a large gathering of party workers on the 26th Foundation Day of the Peoples Democratic Party in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Mehbooba said, “The BJP ruled J&K and the Centre until 2024 — what did they do for Jammu? NC promised free electricity, LPG cylinders and jobs — have they delivered anything?”

She alleged that both parties had exploited public sentiments and left people grappling with inflation, unemployment, and loss of local resources to outsiders.

Reaffirming the PDP’s founding principles, Mehbooba invoked the legacy of her father, former CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. “He left the Congress to offer an alternative — one based on dialogue, dignity and peace, not force. That vision still guides us today,” she said.

She warned that rising global and regional tensions could easily trigger another war. “The arms race is real. One blast in Kashmir or Jammu is enough to escalate conflict. But it’s the people — children, women, civilians — who suffer, not those sitting in power,” she cautioned.

Taking aim at the BJP’s politics, she accused the party of fuelling communal divides for electoral gain. “They play the Hindu-Muslim card, demolish mosques, and divide society for votes. Even tribal children have died in the violence this year,” she claimed.

Calling for unity between Jammu and Kashmir regions, Mehbooba said: “Mufti Sahab always believed that peace must come from within. Unless both regions walk together, no solution will work.”

She urged people to rally behind the PDP’s vision for restoring democracy, dignity, and peace in the Union Territory.
