The government offices of the J&K government will start operating from Jammu on Monday for a period of six months under the bi-annual Darbar Move after a hiatus of four years.
The shifting of the government offices has already been completed with residential accommodation and other logistics arrangements completed by the administration in Jammu.
Heavy rush of vehicles of Kashmir employees is already been witnessed in different parts of Jammu city. The city that that was already witnessing traffic jams will continue to grapple with the problem for the next six months.
It was a promise of National Conference government to resume Darbar Move as it was a major demand by the traders and industry of Jammu that claimed it was hit due to discontinuation of the practice. The practice was discontinued in 2021 by the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha citing excessive expenditure of Rs 200 crore and digitization of documents.
The cabinet Ministers will start working from the secretariat in Jammu from November 3 and listen to the grievances of the people. CM Omar Abdullah has said that his government was working for the people of both the regions without discriminating on the basis of religion or caste.
During an event on Saturday, Abdullah said that despite the fact that Jammu did not vote for NC, the practice of Darbar move was resumed to benefit the region.
