RDD Secretary’s Kargil visit sparks fast-track deadline for key Ladakh projects

The Administrative Secretary, Rural Development Department (RDD), UT Ladakh, Shashanka Ala, IAS, visited Kargil to review key infrastructure projects under the department.

During her visit, the Secretary inspected the newly constructed Directorate of Rural Development Department building at Khurbathang, Kargil. She was accompanied by Executive Engineer, CPWD, Shri Abhishek Kumar Singh, and held discussions with engineers and the contractor to assess the progress of remaining works.

The Secretary noted that the building is nearly ready for use and emphasized the need for its early takeover. She inspected the entry point, office rooms, and the 180-seater multipurpose hall, reviewing lighting and other essential facilities. She directed officials to ensure proper amenities for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and instructed early completion of the pending reception area work.

Ala directed CPWD to complete the takeover process by next week and make the building fully functional by the end of this month. She informed that the inauguration of the complex is tentatively scheduled to be held by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor around December 15. She further instructed concerned departments to prioritize minor pending works, including tile work at the main entrance, remaining tasks on the top floor, and washrooms.

En route to Kargil, the Secretary visited the Community Hall at Shargole to inspect ongoing works. She directed officials to ensure timely completion of remaining tasks. She was accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner Development, Executive Engineer, Block Development Officer, Assistant Executive Engineer andAssistant Engineer.

Villagers expressed gratitude to the Secretary and requested the provision of a bridge, compound walling, and furniture for the community hall. The Secretary stated that the community hall is a public asset and urged residents to take good care of it.

Later, the Secretary called on the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, at the Council Secretariat, Leh, to discuss ongoing developmental works of the Rural Development Department in the district.
