Jammu’s senior superintendent of police Joginder Singh today launched the Tenant Verification web portal that would help house owners to apply online for verification of their tenants.
The UT of Jammu & Kashmir has witnessed incidents of anti-social activities by Anti-National Elements (ANE’s) in the past. Ensuring internal security and providing a safe and secure environment for citizens is the prime responsibility of Jammu and Kashmir Police so that peace and prosperity may flourish in every nook and corner of the UT, the SSP said.
Jammu, being the winter capital, witnesses a continuous inflow of people from different regions of Jammu Division and Kashmir Division, especially during the Secretariat shifting. A large number of such people reside in Jammu on rented accommodation.
Besides this, several large infrastructure projects are underway in Jammu and adjoining areas, due to which labourers, contractors, and technical staff are also residing in rented premises.
ANEs may exploit this large influx of people by taking rented accommodation under false cover.
Keeping the above in view, tenant verification has been made mandatory, and the Deputy Commissioner has also issued orders regarding compulsory tenant reporting and verification by landlords through the police.
However, it has been observed that many landlords are old-aged, out of station, or unable to visit police stations due to their busy schedules or job constraints. In many cases, people are also reluctant to visit police stations. These factors were hampering the process of tenant reporting and subsequent verification.
In this regard, 12 FIRs were registered against defaulting landlords, while police conducted more than ten thousand tenant verifications.
To address these challenges, Jammu Police has taken a proactive initiative by developing an online Tenant Verification Portal named KIRAYEDAR.
This portal has been developed with the collaborative efforts of three students from IIT Jammu and one local youth from Kathua district, under the guidance of SDPO City West Jammu. The portal is user-friendly, accessible anytime and from anywhere, and acts as an effective communication bridge between landlords and police for the benefit of the public.
Jammu Police expects a significant increase in tenant reporting and verification through this portal, which will further strengthen internal security and help in providing a safe and secure Jammu to its citizens—an essential and moral duty of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The portal is user-friendly and easily accessible through Google.
Steps for Tenant Verification:
Step 1: Type tenant.jkpverify.in in the Google search bar.
Step 2: The Tenant Verification Portal KIRAYEDAR will open.
Enter your name and mobile number and click on Verify My Tenant.
Step 3: An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP to verify your phone number.
Step 4: The tenant details interface will open. Fill in all required details, including Aadhaar number and mobile number of the tenant. Upload Aadhaar image, photograph of the tenant, and details of family members. Select the concerned police station.
Step 5: After filling all details, click on Submit. You will receive an SMS confirming submission along with your application ID.
In this manner, landlords can report and submit tenant details easily without visiting the police station.
