8354 ticketless train travelers caught in January by Jammu Division officials; Rs. 62 lakh fine recovered

To provide better facilities to passengers and curb ticketless travel, a well-organized and systematic ticket checking drive was conducted in the Jammu Division of Northern Railway during the month of January. This ticket checking drive was carried out at all important stations and on trains of the Jammu Division by teams constituted according to a special strategy adopted by the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal. During this drive, extensive checks were conducted by the ticket checking staff at railway stations and on trains. The main objective was to make travel more comfortable, safe, and convenient for passengers with valid tickets.

In continuation of this ticket checking drive, action was taken against ticketless travelers in a total of 8354 cases during the month of January, and a fine of approximately Rs. 62 lakhs was collected.

Under the ticket checking drive, all important railway stations in the division were completely cordoned off and checked at the entry and exit points.

Based on data analysis, trains and routes with a high number of irregular passengers were identified, and special teams were deployed there.

Special ‘surprise checks’ were planned for late-night and early-morning trains.
During this period, joint teams were formed with officers of the Commercial Department, Railway Protection Force, and Government Railway Police, ensuring effective security and ticket checking.

Commenting on the ticket checking drive conducted in the division, Singhal said that this was the first ticket checking drive of the year 2026, conducted under a special strategy, which proved successful. This is the result of the precise work and teamwork of the checking staff. As a result, action was taken against ticketless and irregular travelers. We had prepared separate teams for crowded routes. Our objective is not merely to collect fines, but to encourage passengers to travel with tickets so that passengers with reserved tickets can have a comfortable journey. This ticket checking campaign will continue in the future at all railway stations and on all trains.
