The Indian Dental Association (IDA), Jammu, organised a two-day Mega Dental Check-Up and Awareness Camp on February 5 and 6, 2026, at Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School, Jammu, under the presidentship of Dr Umang Jamwal. The camp aimed at promoting oral health awareness among students and ensuring early detection of dental problems.
More than 1,500 girl students of the school, along with staff members, underwent oral health screening during the camp. The initiative received an enthusiastic response from students and faculty alike.
The team of dental professionals participating in the camp included Dr Umang Jamwal, Dr Himja Mengi, Dr Premlata, Dr Kunal Vuthoo, Dr Arshiya, Dr Abhimanyu Rohmetra, Dr Niharika, Dr Anshu, Dr Nayab, Dr Shatakshi, Dr Ria, Dr Ambreen, Dr Shivangi, and Dr Anish.
Dr Umang Jamwal, the first female President of IDA Jammu, also runs a private dental practice, Ivory Harbor The Dental Clinic at Trikuta Nagar. Dr Himja Mengi, Vice-President of IDA Jammu, heads the Plaksha Foundation, under which she regularly organises dental camps in collaboration with Dr Arshiya.
As part of the awareness programme, Dr Kunal Vuthoo, President-Elect (2027), demonstrated correct brushing techniques to the students. Dr Abhimanyu Rohmetra stressed the importance of brushing twice daily with a soft-bristle toothbrush and advised students to limit frequent intake of sweet, sticky, and soft foods such as chocolates, candies, and ice cream.
Dr Vibha Raina, Secretary of IDA Jammu, said that educational institutions interested in organising dental check-up and awareness camps for their students can contact IDA Jammu.
Sumeet Gandotra from Colgate and Sanjay from Stim oral care provided samples of toothpastes for distribution amongst the students.
The camp reinforced IDA Jammu’s commitment to improving oral health awareness and preventive dental care among the younger population.
