The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday carried out searches at the residence of the brother of Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets probe, officials said. Vijay Choudhary is an Inspector in the J&K Police.

Officials said the search was being conducted as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged disproportionate assets.

The raid began early in the morning at his residence in the Santokh Vihar–Kaluchak area of the city. Vijay Choudhary was transferred to Ladakh in September last year.

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary termed the action “unfortunate” and defended his brother, stating that the officer had served with distinction and had been involved in anti-terror operations in areas such as Thanamandi (Poonch) and Doda. He said that instead of being rewarded with a promotion, his brother was subjected to an ACB raid.

He has always fought against terrorism and crime. Instead of giving him a promotion, they have sent the ACB to his house, Surinder Choudhary said and further emphasised that his brother’s service record and background are well known, asserting that wherever he was posted, he earned a strong reputation for tackling terrorism and criminal activities head-on.

Highlighting his family’s background, Choudhary added that they come from a soldier’s family. He noted that their father served in the Army and that the family reached its current position through years of hard work and perseverance.
