CM Omar Abdullah announces Rs.2 cr reward to J&K Ranji Trophy team, government jobs

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the victory as a “watershed moment” for J&K cricket and announced a cash reward of Rs.2 crore for the players and support staff in recognition of their historic feat. He also declared that the team members would be entitled to government appointments under the recently notified rules for outstanding sportspersons.

“J&K’s finest hour has arrived,” the Chief Minister said, expressing deep emotion at witnessing the team claim the trophy. “To every fierce player who carved history through sheer grit — thank you from an entire Union Territory beaming with pride. You have immortalized history — embrace it with honour.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also congratulated the team, calling the achievement a reflection of the Union Territory’s growing sporting ecosystem. He credited the sporting push witnessed in recent years and urged the youth to draw inspiration from the landmark victory.

The LG wrote on X; “I’m grateful for UT’s sporting revolution ignited under Hon’ble PM Sh @narendramodi Ji’s leadership post 2019. To all youth: let this blaze ignite your horizon:train relentlessly & fiercely. Build on this win to pioneer eras of dominance -J&K’s unstoppable future starts with you”.

PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also congratulated the J&K team and wrote on X; “Today’s stupendous success of the Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy has given the people a rare moment of joy after a long time. This victory is also a powerful reply to those forces that seek to divide our society on religious lines. The triumph was made possible by the united effort of a team made up of both Hindu and Muslim players proving once again that unity is our greatest strength. Together we rise, together we succeed, and today’s win is a reminder to the world that the spirit of J&K can never be broken”.
