In a move that underscores both growing passenger demand and the rising commercial potential of railway infrastructure, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway has, for the first time, successfully awarded a high-value tender for a Food Van at Srinagar Railway Station, with the five-year contract pegged at nearly Rs.70 lakh—marking a significant boost to non-fare revenue while enhancing on-ground amenities for travelers.
The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has achieved a significant milestone in its efforts to expand passenger amenities. For the first time, the Division has successfully concluded the tender process for the operation of a ‘Food Van’ at Srinagar Railway Station.
This initiative has been undertaken with the objective of providing high-quality food and modern catering services to the thousands of passengers arriving at and departing from Srinagar Station.
Elaborating on the details of the contract:
This tender has been allotted at an annual license fee of Rs.11,77,786. The contract will remain in force for a period of five years. The total value of the contract for this entire duration has been fixed at Rs.69,48,937.40.
In the times to come, this is expected to become a major centre of attraction for tourists.
This marks the first time in the history of Srinagar Railway Station that an official tender has been issued for a Food Van service.
Through this initiative, both tourists and local passengers will have access to hygienic and affordable food options right within the station premises.
This successful tender process is also expected to lead to a significant increase in the Railway’s Non-Fare Revenue.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Jammu Division, stated, “The department is continuously striving to enhance the passenger experience and ensure world-class amenities at its stations. The expansion of such services at a major tourism hub like Srinagar will make railway services in the region even more accessible and modern.”
