Attack on police during anti-bovine smuggling operation in Jammu; cop injured

A police team from Police Station Miran Sahib successfully foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling on April 9 during late evening hours near Muralia Dak Bungalow, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Miran Sahib, RS Pura Sector.


Acting on specific and reliable information regarding the movement and preparation of bovine smuggling, a police party was immediately dispatched to the said location to take preventive action. Upon reaching the spot, the police team noticed suspicious activity linked to smuggling operations.


During the course of action, the police party was suddenly confronted by a group of individuals present at the site, who turned hostile and started heavy stone pelting on the police personnel in an attempt to resist the operation and facilitate the escape of the smugglers. The situation quickly escalated as the police team was surrounded by the miscreants.


In the incident, one police driver sustained injuries due to the intense stone pelting and was later shifted for medical attention. Despite the challenging circumstances, the police team maintained restraint and continued their efforts to control the situation.


It has also been reported that during the confrontation, some individuals from the group opened fire on the police party. In response and in self-defense, the police personnel fired a few controlled rounds to disperse the attackers and safeguard themselves. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the firing on either side.
