Jammu’s Bikram Chowk subway to open daily from 8 am to 6 pm; CCTVs, proper lighting to track movement

Amid rising concerns over safety and repeated closure of the Bikram Chowk subway, Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner  Jammu Municipal Corporation, conducted an on-site inspection of the facility in the presence of officials and issued immediate directives to restore its safe and regulated operation.

The inspection was carried out with officials from the concerned police station, members of the municipal sanitation team including the Health Officer, and Deputy Commissioner (North) Sanjay Badyal. The purpose of the visit was to assess ground realities and take prompt action to address issues related to misuse, hygiene, and public safety.

During the inspection, the Commissioner directed that the subway will remain open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM. This fixed schedule has been implemented to prevent anti-social and illicit activities that typically occur during late hours.

Police officials have been asked to carry out regular patrols and maintain strict vigilance in and around the subway during operational hours to ensure the safety of commuters. At the same time, sanitation teams have been directed to maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene through routine cleaning and monitoring.

To further strengthen security, the subway has been equipped with adequate lighting and CCTV surveillance systems to keep track of commuter movement and deter misuse.

The Commissioner emphasized that the subway will function under continuous joint supervision of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the Police Department, ensuring sustained maintenance, accountability, and a safe environment for the public.
