Boyfriend not answering calls led woman to set herself on fire in Jammu: Police
In a bizarre incident, a 22-year-old woman allegedly set herself on fire in Jammu after her boyfriend did not respond to her phone calls.
Police officials said on Friday that the incident took place near the Tawi bridge area yesterday, when the woman allegedly poured some inflammable substance and set herself on fire in a fit of rage,
After seeing her, the passersby immediately rushed to her aid and somehow managed to douse the flames. Later on, the police officials admitted her to a hospital for treatment.
The woman is said to have suffered nearly 80 per cent burn injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
During preliminary investigation, it was suggested that a strained relationship was the major reason behind the incident, a senior police official said.
In the presence of a magistrate, the police even recorded the woman’s statement in the hospital on Thursday night.
The police official said that she told investigators that she was unable to get in touch with her boyfriend over the past two to three days, since he was not answering her calls.
She further stated that she had no intention to die, but acted in a fit of anger.
Police have registered a case and started investigating the matter.
