Vice President visits Ladakh’s Pashmina goat farm, applauds sustainable livestock management
In a significant boost to Ladakh’s traditional Pashmina sector, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday toured the Upshi Pashmina Goat Farm, where he praised the work being undertaken to conserve the prized Changthangi goat breed and promote sustainable livestock-based livelihoods.
The Vice President was accompanied by Ladakh’s Lt. Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena during the visit.
The Vice President wrote on X; “It was a pleasure to visit the Pashmina Goat Farm at Upshi and witness firsthand the remarkable efforts being undertaken to preserve and promote the unique Pashmina heritage of Ladakh”.
“The Changthangi goats and the world-renowned Pashmina they produce stand as symbols of the ingenuity and rich cultural traditions of the people of this region. The farm’s contribution towards sustainable livestock management and the socio-economic empowerment of local communities, particularly women engaged in Pashmina production and allied activities, is truly commendable”.
“I appreciate the dedication of the scientists, staff, and local stakeholders associated with this institution. Their collective efforts are helping strengthen rural livelihoods, create opportunities for women’s economic participation, and preserve an invaluable national asset for future generations”, he added.
Hailing the visit of the Vice President, LG Saxena wrote on X; “Grateful to the Hon’ble Vice President, for visiting the Upshi Pashmina Goat Farm today, and motivating the local communities engaged in rearing and production of globally renowned Pashmina”.
“This visit reflects the nation’s recognition of Ladakh’s unique pastoral heritage and will further bolster our collective resolve & efforts to establish Ladakh Pashmina as the finest, world-class brand and strengthening the pastoral communities”, the LG added.
