Kashmir trains to run at 100 kmph on Banihal–Qazigund route

Giving a new dimension to rail connectivity in the Kashmir Valley, approval has been granted by Northern Railway, Jammu Division to increase the maximum permissible speed of trains on the Banihal – Qazigund single line electrified section from 75 km/h to 100 km/h.

With the speed on the 17 km long Banihal-Qazigund section increased from 75 to 100 km/h, the running time of trains will reduce. This will increase the capacity of trains in the section and allow more time for train maintenance. As a result, travel will become safer and the track will be cleared faster for other trains.

This will improve the punctuality of all trains going up to Qazigund, Anantnag, Srinagar. Passengers will face fewer “train delayed” issues.

This speed increase is not just about saving time, but it will also accelerate the economic-social development of the Kashmir Valley. Jammu Division is committed to providing every passenger with a safe, fast and comfortable journey.

Jammu Division appeals to passengers to follow all safety instructions during travel and cooperate in ensuring safety of railway property.
