Drug peddler’s property worth Rs 38 lakh in Jammu seized by Police
Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking and taking stringent action against assets generated through the narcotics trade, Police Station Nowabad has seized/frozen illegally acquired movable properties worth over ₹38 lakh belonging to a habitual drug peddler under the provisions of Chapter V-A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The seized/frozen properties belong to Sharif Hussain @ Bachu S/o Lal Hussain, R/o Alkha Kullah Marh, Domana, District Jammu, at present residing at Nikki Tawi, Javed Nagar, Jammu, and include:
* Cash amounting to ₹14,15,350/-
* One Mahindra Scorpio-N bearing Registration No. JK02DS-7947 valued at approximately ₹22.33 lakh
* One Royal Enfield Bullet Motorcycle bearing Registration No. JK02CN-3097 valued at approximately ₹1.50 lakh
During investigation, the above assets were established to have been acquired through the proceeds of illicit drug trafficking and were identified as illegally acquired properties within the meaning of the NDPS Act.
Accordingly, exercising powers conferred under Section 68F(1) of the NDPS Act, 1985, the aforesaid properties have been seized and attached.
The accused is a habitual offender and has remained involved in multiple criminal cases, including repeated offences under the NDPS Act. The attachment of such illegally acquired assets reflects the firm resolve of Jammu Police to dismantle the financial infrastructure of drug traffickers and ensure that proceeds of crime do not remain in the hands of offenders.
Jammu Police reiterates its unwavering commitment towards a drug-free society and appeals to the public to continue supporting the fight against narcotics by sharing information regarding drug trafficking or related illegal activities with the nearest police station. The identity of informants shall be kept strictly confidential.
