Army intensifies search for missing, clears blocked roads in flood hit Rajouri

As devastating floods and landslides continued to batter Rajouri and Poonch districts, the Indian Army on Wednesday launched extensive search-and-rescue operations to trace missing civilians and restore disrupted road connectivity, braving torrential rains, treacherous terrain and fast-flowing waters.

Specialised rescue teams were rushed to flood-hit Plangarh following reports of missing persons, while Army personnel, in coordination with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), cleared a massive landslide near Budhi Mod to reopen the strategic Rajouri–Budhal road, ensuring the movement of civilians and emergency services.

Responding promptly to the emergency, specialised Army rescue teams were deployed to the affected area with advanced search, rescue and safety equipment. Despite adverse weather conditions, difficult terrain and strong water currents, the troops carried out a systematic search of the flooded locations to trace the missing persons and extend immediate assistance to affected residents.

The operation was undertaken in close coordination with the civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police and other disaster-response agencies. Joint teams assessed vulnerable areas, assisted local residents and ensured the timely mobilisation of available resources.

The Indian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding lives and providing humanitarian assistance during natural disasters. Demonstrating unwavering commitment and the spirit of Service Before Self, the Indian Army’s Road Opening Party (ROP), Quick Reaction Team (QRT), in coordination with a detachment of 110 RCC (BRO), launched a prompt Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation following a severe landslide near Budhi Mod in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir.

The teams swiftly mobilised to the affected location and undertook the challenging task of clearing the massive debris that had blocked the Rajouri – Budhal road. Despite adverse weather conditions and difficult terrain, coordinated efforts and timely intervention enabled the road to be reopened at the earliest, restoring vital connectivity and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of traffic.

The operation highlighted the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives, maintaining essential lines of communication and providing timely assistance to the local population during emergencies. The prompt restoration of the road facilitated the smooth movement of civilians, emergency vehicles and essential services.

The successful operation once again reaffirmed the Indian Army’s steadfast commitment to the welfare, safety and well-being of the local Awam during times of need.
