Hydropower push in J&K: Kiru Dam near completion, Pakal Dul lowers final rotor

The Kiru and Pakal Dul hudroelectric projects in the Kishtwar district of the Jammu division are speedily moving towards completion and commissioning by the due date next year.

Kiru HEP (624 MW), CVPPL today achieved a significant milestone with the completion of 12.00 lakh cum of dam concrete out of the total 12.20 lakh cum. With this achievement, the project is progressing towards completion of the Dam by August 2026, paving the way for commissioning of the project by March 2027.

Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Projects), NHPC, Suprakash Adhikari, Director (Technical), NHPC and Ramesh Mukhiya, MD, CVPPL congratulated the entire Kiru HEP team and M/s Patel Engineering Limited, the executing agency, on this achievement.

On this occasion, Ramesh Mukhiya, MD, CVPPL, emphasized the timely completion of the remaining milestones to ensure commissioning of the project during the current financial year 2026–27.

Meanwhile, in a major step towards the completion of Pakal Dul HE Project (1000 MW), Rotor of Unit-4 was on Friday (31 July) successfully lowered in the presence of Senior Officials of Pakal Dul HE Project as well as M/s Voith (Contractor for E&M Package).

With this Milestone, Rotor has now been lowered in all the Four Generating Units.

Ramesh Mukhiya, Managing Director, CVPPL, congratulated the entire team of Pakal Dul HE Project on this achievement and praised the efforts of Power House team. On this occasion, Managing Director, CVPPL, said that “All employees of CVPPL are required to stand up to the challenge and achieve the Milestones within the time frame so that commissioning of Project is realised in FY 2026-27”.
