JUNTEU felicitates VC Rai as 53 year old Jammu University land issue resolved
The Jammu University Non-Teaching Employees Union (JUNTEU) today felicitated Vice Chancellor Prof. Umesh Rai for the resolution of the long-pending matter concerning 147 kanals and 11 marlas of land adjoining the University’s main campus at Rakh Bahu, which was under the possession of the Army, paving the way for the University to address its growing academic and infrastructural requirements. As part of the resolution, the UT Administration of J&K will hand over 2,062 kanals and 17 marlas in Tehsil Nagrota and 62 kanals in Tehsil Jammu to the Army in lieu of the land adjoining the University campus.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Umesh Rai thanked JUNTEU for the gesture and said the availability of the additional land would help the University plan its future academic and infrastructural expansion in a systematic manner. He expressed gratitude to all concerned authorities and stakeholders for their support in resolving the long-pending matter.
JUNTEU President Dr. Rakesh Chib appreciated the Vice Chancellor’s sustained efforts and visionary leadership, saying the development would open new avenues for academic expansion, infrastructure development and better facilities for students, scholars and employees.
JUNTEU General Secretary Pankaj Gupta also lauded Prof. Rai’s proactive approach towards addressing the University’s long-standing infrastructural requirements. He said the development would have a lasting impact on the academic and administrative growth of the institution and benefit generations of students and scholars.
Vice President Gurmeet Singh, along with Ram Singh, Arjun Singh and Sourav Chalotra, also expressed gratitude towards the Vice Chancellor and welcomed this landmark development.
The land issue dates back to the original allotment for establishment of the University campus at Rakh Bahu in 1973. The matter was pursued by successive University administrations and gained renewed momentum during Prof. Rai’s tenure.
The JUNTEU congratulated the entire University fraternity and expressed confidence that the additional land would significantly strengthen the University’s future academic,research and infrastructural capabilities.
