SPO loses job after alleged Rs100 bribe video from Lakhanpur naka goes viral

A viral video has prompted swift action by Kathua Police, with an SPO posted at Police Station Lakhanpur being disengaged from service for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs.100 from a truck driver during naka checking duty.

The action was taken against SPO Ameer-Ul-Din (No. 582/SPO) of Police Station Lakhanpur through Order No. 768 of 2026, issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua, Mohita Sharma, on September 28.

According to the order, Ameer-Ul-Din, along with Head Constable Dhruv Singh, ASI Gian Chand and Selection Grade Constable Shamsher Singh, had been deployed for naka checking duty at the Truck Terminal Point, Lakhanpur, on September 27.

The SHO, Police Station Lakhanpur, subsequently received a video clip through WhatsApp from an unknown person. The order states that the video showed Ameer-Ul-Din allegedly demanding and accepting ₹100 from an unknown truck driver while performing naka duty.

The police authorities termed the conduct a violation of discipline and said it had tarnished the image of the department. Based on the recommendations of the DySP, DAR, DPL Kathua, and the viral video, the SPO was disengaged from service with immediate effect, while his post was declared vacant.

The order also directed him to deposit all uniform articles and any arms and ammunition issued to him with the concerned police authorities.

Meanwhile, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against HC Dhruv Singh, ASI Gian Chand and Sgct Shamsher Singh for alleged dereliction of duty and failure to report the misconduct to senior officers.

The inquiry has been entrusted to SP (Ops) Border & Kandi, Kathua, who has been directed to conduct the proceedings under Rules 357 and 359 of the J&K Police Manual and submit findings along with specific recommendations.
