In a significant anti-encroachment action, authorities on Tuesday demolished a shed and other structures allegedly occupied by relatives of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru in Baramulla. These structures were illegally built, said officials.

The shed, constructed on a flood basin in Sopore area, was demolished during a drive carried out by a team of the Revenue Department, the officials said.

They said the structure was erected on state land in violation of government regulations.

The officials said family members of Guru, who was convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case and executed in February 2013, allegedly built and occupied the structure.

The property known as Dairy Farm, near Gulnar Park, was built on government land which was cited as the reason for the demolition. Notices had already been served for eviction, while security deployment was witnessed in the area.

The demolition operation was carried out under official administrative supervision, with a magistrate, revenue officials and other concerned authorities present at the site.
