A character of ‘The Kerala Story’ who became an instant hit

While the movie The Kerala Story is being appreciated by many for the topic it is based on, a character from the movie has become an instant hit.

Chandra Shekhar Dutta who played the role of a preacher in the movie asking the hardliners to convert gullible women is basically from Jharkhand.

He graduated in acting from FTII, Pune. From a very humble background he got into Art qualifying competitions around with a best actor from FTII Jaya Bachchan scholarship.

He has been active in Mumbai since 2008 with a debutant film error 404. He worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ram Gopal Verma, Santosh Sivan and Shyam Benegal. OTTs like Laakhonmein ek season 2 as village lead Gandharva on Amazon Prime, Nakaab as Vinod Amre (Esha Gupta’s husband) on mx player among other roles.

Dutta says that he believes in extreme transformation. “I gained 15 kg weight for Khakee- the Bihar Chapter and continued shooting for other roles which needed a shredded body” he says.

“Transformation means complete personality change. I don’t believe in behavioral approaches but situational impromptu and spiritual artistic part of acting with changes in traits” Dutta stresses.

The actor believes that techniques and craft make you grow longer and become a lifetime learner. “Your senses will never be coloured. It helps you to maintain both exciting days as well as vulnerable days” he says.

“The role had different faces which appeared floating through social media, a combo image of the preachers and conversion gurus. I am grateful to Sudipto Sen who can imagine me, producer Ashin andcVipul Amrulal Shah who tested me and felt it can make hallucinations if projected rightly and Mukesh Chhabra team who brought a new breath in my life getting me various roles which needs efficiency and potential away from what I am” he said.

Dutta is currently busy shooting for a franchise series for children. A big banner project as primary, an awaited release Mujib the Making of a Nation.
