A year after Ladakh became a Union Territory, the newly elected 26 councilors to the 6th General Council took oath on the foundation day of UT Ladakh at Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, Leh.
Newly elected Councilors were sworn in by Principal District and Session Judge Leh R.S Jasrotia who administered oath to the 26 elected members of the 6th LAHDC, Leh.
It is pertinent to mention here that the election for the 6th LAHDC, Leh had held on the 22nd October and the results were declared on the 26th October in which 15 candidates of BJP recorded a victory while 9 candidates of Congress and two independents also won the polls.

Most of the councilors who were sworn-in today were dressed in traditional Ladakhi Gonha and took the oath in Ladakhi language. While Councillor Khaltsi Lobzang Sharap attire in full traditional Ladakhi dress and took oath in Ladakhi language.
Councillor Chuchot Mirza Hussain took the oath in Urdu followed by some Councillor took the oath in English.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were District Magistrate Leh Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Secretary District Legal Service Authority Leh, Spalzes Angmo, Munsiff JMIC Nobra, Chemet Yurgyal, SSP Leh Rajiv Panday, ADC Leh, Sonam Chosjor, religious heads, political heads and HODs of Leh district.
Later, first general council meeting of 6th LAHDC, Leh was held in the assembly hall of Council Secretariat to elect Chairman and Dy. Chairman of the Hill Council Leh. Advocate Tashi Gyaltson was elected as the new Chairman/ Chief Executive Councilor of the 6th LAHDC, Leh and Councillor Diskit Tsering Angchuk was elected as Dy. Chairman.

After being elected as a Chairman of 6th LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson expressed his gratitude to the people of Singay Lalok and all the members of BJP for giving him an opportunity to hold the Chairman seat.
He also expresses his gratitude to DC/CEO LAHDC and administration for conducting free and fair elections.Addressing the house Chairman emphasis on working in unity as a team to overcome the challenge in Ladakh on priority and to usher developmental progress in all sectors.
He also stated that 6th LAHDC election is the first election in the region after Ladakh became Union Territory and today the 31st October is observed as a day of Union Territory in the entire Ladakh. He also gave assurance that 6th LAHDC will work tirelessly without any tolerance and give full support to build a healthy & prosperous Ladakh.
