𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶 : In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing drive against absconders launched by District Police Reasi, an accused who had been evading arrest for the past 18 years in heinous militancy-related criminal cases has been apprehended.
Reasi Police successfully arrested an absconder (Ex-militant) Anwar Ali Chouhan, son of Haji Nizam Din Chouhan alias Jamsheer, Caste Bakkarwal, aged 40 years, originally a resident of Gujjar Kothian, Talwara, Reasi, and presently residing at Kharpura, Anantnag. The accused had joined the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant outfit in 2001 and remained active for seven years. He later surrendered in 2007 in Kashmir but subsequently went underground , evading arrest by going underground kept changing location so as to evade arrest which is required in multiple high-profile criminal and militancy-related cases registered at Police Station Reasi.
Several attempts were made to arrest him over the years by conducting raids at his known locations in Gujjar Kothian, Chinore (Jammu) and Kherpora (Anantnag). Consequently, the Hon’ble Court was approached, and proceedings under sections 82 and 83 Cr.PC were initiated against him. Despite these measures, his whereabouts remained unknown.
On the directions of 𝗦𝗦𝗣 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘃𝗶𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗝𝗞𝗣𝗦, a special police team was constituted under the leadership of 𝗦𝗛𝗢 𝗣/𝗦 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶, 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗗𝘆.𝗦𝗣 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗹. 𝗦𝗣 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶. After strenuous efforts and the use of technical surveillance, Reasi Police developed a specific input by meticulously planning & coordinated efforts in repeated raids and chased him from a forested area near Gujjar Kothian, Talwara.Criminal Involvement On 05.01.2006 a case FIR No. 04/2006 under sections 307, 120B, 121(A) RPC, and 7/27 Arms Act was registered at P/S Reasi in which during a search operation in the Jadd, Talwara forest area, some unknown terrorists opened fire on the police party and subsequently escaped under the cover of dense forest. A grenade was recovered from the site. The investigation revealed the involvement of Anwar Ali, and a charge sheet was produced against him under Section 512 Cr.PC in the Court of Law. On 07.04.2006 a case FIR No. 57/2006 under sections 302, 307, 120B, 121(A), 212, 216 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and 3 JKPS Act was registered at P/S Reasi. In this case, a hand grenade was thrown at a bus (Registration No. JK02P-3881) at Baradari, Reasi, resulting in the injury of five people Later on the father of the then Dy.SP Headquarters Reasi succumbed to his injuries due to that grenade blast. During the investigation, a charge sheet was presented before the Hon’ble Court under Section 512 Cr.PC against two individuals, namely Mumtaz Ali Chouhan and Anwar Ali Chouhan both sons of Haji Njiam Din Chouhan R/O Gujjar Kothian, Talwara. While Mumtaz was arrested in 2007 , Anwar Ali remained absconding—until his arrest today.
𝗦𝗦𝗣 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶, 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘃𝗶𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗝𝗞𝗣𝗦,stated that the arrest of criminals, particularly those involved in militancy-related cases, is a crucial step in maintaining peace and security in the region. He emphasized that Reasi Police remains committed to ensuring justice and will continue to track down and bring down the absconding criminals to face trial in the court of law.
