Amarnath Yatra 2026: Police conduct fidayeen, sniper and grenade attack mock drills in Kashmir
Ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, security forces have intensified preparations by conducting a series of high-intensity mock drills across Anantnag and Ganderbal districts to test emergency response mechanisms and strengthen coordination among various agencies.
In Anantnag, Police today carried out realistic simulations of a fidayeen attack at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam, a grenade attack at Grend Aishmuqam, and a sniper attack scenario at Langabal, Pahalgam. The exercises were aimed at assessing operational preparedness, tactical response, evacuation procedures, casualty management and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in the event of terrorist contingencies.
The drills involved swift securing of affected areas, neutralisation of simulated threats, evacuation of pilgrims and civilians to safe zones, medical assistance to mock casualties, traffic regulation, search and sanitisation operations, and area domination exercises.
Meanwhile, Ganderbal Police conducted comprehensive mock drills at strategic locations, including Model Naka Chinner, Kijpora and Margund, simulating multiple emergency scenarios to evaluate the readiness of security forces and civil agencies ahead of the pilgrimage.
The exercises witnessed the participation of Police, CRPF, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Health Department and other stakeholder agencies, showcasing seamless inter-agency coordination and prompt response under simulated emergency conditions.
Police said such scenario-based exercises are being conducted regularly to reinforce security preparedness and ensure a swift and coordinated response to any contingency during the yatra. Authorities reiterated their commitment to providing a safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage for devotees while maintaining the highest level of vigilance throughout the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
