Jammu :- On Republic Day 2025, Jammu & Kashmir Police received rich accolades as it saw 27 officers being decorated with good gallantry and distinguished service awards. The medals, given out in Srinagar, included 15 Medals for Gallantry (GM), two President’s Medals for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 10 Medals for Meritorious Service (MSM).More important recipients included senior officials like Additional Director General Anand Jain and CID chief Nitish Kumar, who was already an ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir. Other esteemed award recipients included Vijay Kumar- IPS, and Inspector General of Police; Rakesh Balwal, IPS- Senior Superintendent of Police.All the Gallantry Medal recipients are cross-sections of police personnel from Deputy Superintendents to Constables that reflect the collective bravery and commitment on the part of the J&K Police force. Most interestingly, the list included serving officers and some even posthumous recognition to recipients, like the award to Late Himayun Muzzammil, Deputy Superintendent of Police.Azhar Rashid (DSP), Maajid Afzal Wani (Head Constable), Vijay Kumar (IGP), Rakesh Balwal (SSP), and Iftkhar Talib (Superintendent of Police) are just a few notable awardees for the Gallantry Medal. The wide array of ranks among the awardees also indicates that the honors recognize the different aspects of policing efforts.These awards are not only recognition of the achievements of the individual but also a symbol of the J&K Police’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, and serve the community with dedication and courage in a challenging operational environment.
