BJP welcomes British MP’s motion reaffirming India’s sovereignty over J&K
BJP spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan has welcomed a motion tabled by British Conservative MP Bob Blackman in the UK House of Commons on Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as a politically significant expression of support while clarifying that it is an initiative backed by individual British MPs and not a formally adopted resolution of the British Parliament.
He said that the initiative strengthens India’s stand and reinforces the historical and legal reality that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inseparable part of India.
Referring to the motion tabled ahead of Jammu and Kashmir Accession Day falling on October 26, Balbir said that the development assumes special significance as it comes from British parliamentarians, considering Britain’s historical association with the Indian subcontinent.
He said that the Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja Hari Singh on October 26, 1947, firmly established Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India, leaving no room for misleading interpretations or politically motivated propaganda.
He said that the motion is a welcome expression of support for India’s sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir. It sends a clear message that historical facts cannot be changed through false narratives, external interference or repeated attempts to internationalise the issue.
Balbir appreciated Bob Blackman and other supporting British MPs for acknowledging the significance of Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to India and highlighting the suffering caused by terrorism, particularly the targeted violence and displacement experienced by Kashmiri Pandits.
He said that Pakistan-sponsored terrorism has inflicted immense suffering on the people of Jammu and Kashmir for decades, claiming innocent lives, disturbing peace and obstructing development.
Balbir further said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed sustained efforts towards strengthening peace, security and development.
He described the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 as a historic decision that strengthened constitutional integration and opened new avenues for investment, infrastructure development and public welfare.
The BJP spokesperson clarified that although the motion represents an initiative supported by individual British MPs and not a formally adopted resolution of the British Parliament, it carries considerable political and symbolic significance.
Balbir reiterated that India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable. He said that such international expressions of support strengthen India’s position and expose the misleading propaganda being spread against the country.
He urged the international community to recognise historical realities, reject terrorism and support lasting peace, stability and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
