In a prestigious election for four Rajya Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, J&K’s BJP president Sat Sharma won his seat polling 32 votes against the party’s strength of 28 MLAs in the assembly.

The ruling National Conference (NC) candidates, Choudhary Ramzan, Sajjad Kichloo and Shammi Oberoi won the other three seats.

BJP had fielded three candidates of whom only Sat Sharma got elected, while the two others Rakesh Mahajan and Ali Mohammad Mir were defeated.
Sat Sharma polling 4 votes more than the party’s strength does not rule out cross voting by certain MLAs. He defeated Imran Nabi Dar of NC on the fourth seat.
