Udhampur :- Students of Primary School Sadal, (प्राइमरी स्कूल सदाल) located in the Narore Panchayat of Panchari Block of Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, have been attending classes in a dilapidated building for over a decade. Despite numerous appeals, the school has yet to receive a permanent structure.
The building has been given by a local who doesn’t seek rent from the authorities.
The students, many of whom come from marginalized backgrounds, have been forced to study in poor conditions. The makeshift classroom is on the verge of collapse and often becomes waterlogged during the rainy season. This has led to significant disruptions in their education and has put their safety at risk.
The lack of basic amenities such as a playground and proper sanitation facilities has also been a major concern for students and parents. These shortcomings are in stark contrast to the government’s directives mandating that all schools have adequate infrastructure, washroom and safe drinking water . Students have expressed their disappointment with the district education department for its apparent inaction. Students have urged the government to prioritize the construction of a new school building in Sadal. The students have even appealed to the Prime Minister for help.
Amar Singh Student said “We study outdoors most of the time because we have no school building yet. He added that fear the building might collapse because our rented school building is in worst condition. Our uniforms get dirty, and during the rainy season, we have to sit in puddles”.
Nisha Devi school teacher said that school was established 10-11 years ago but till date no School Building sanctioned for our school. She added that we face hardship to give proper education to the Students because of condition of School rent free building. She added that our school don’t have wash room, Playground even basic amenities. She appealed to Government to construct the School Building soon.
Kalpana Jasrotia Deputy Chief Education Officer Udhampur said that 121 Government School running in a buildings. She added that Primary School Sadal is also running in arent free school building.
She added that the concerned officials have been asked to identify a land for construction of the school building.
