Jammu : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a massive operation on Wednesday, carrying out simultaneous searches at seven places in Jammu and Kashmir against Kumar Rajeev Ranjan, the incumbent Secretary of Labour and Employment Department.
The searches also involved a raid at his office in the civil secretariat in Srinagar. The probe is based on suspicious observations while the agency was investigating gun license cases, where they stumbled upon allegedly disproportionate assets in Ranjan’s hands. The CBI has actually filed a case against the top bureaucrat after preliminary examination found he had amassed assets which he could not properly explain through his declared sources of income.
The raid is another notable anti-corruption drive in the union territory with the CBI, in particular, targeting suspected financial impropriety of a top government bureaucrat. The raids are evidence of the investigative agency’s persistence to probe sudden unexplained affluence reaped by the civil servants.Law enforcement officials said the probe is part of a larger investigation, with the disproportionate assets case surfacing as a spin-off of the gun license probe.
