Centre’s nod awaited for metro-lite projects in Jammu, Srinagar: CM Omar Abdullah

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said in the Assembly that the final approval of the union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA) Government of India, is still awaited for construction of metro-lite system in Jammu and Srinagar.

In reply to a question tabled by Arvind Gupta, the CM said “In principle approval for the proposal of respective Metro Lite systems for both capital cities i.e. Jammu and Srinagar has been accorded by the Administrative Council, vide Decision No. 12/3/2021 dated 13.02.2021”.

“Subsequently, Detailed Project Reports for Metro/Light Rail Projects in Jammu and Srinagar cities for estimated costs of: ₹4,069.48 crore for Jammu city, and ₹4,892.51 crore for Srinagar city also stand submitted to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India for appraisal and funding”.

“The final response/approval from MoHUA, GoI is still awaited”, he added.
