Mir flies to Delhi to meet Congress high command, action against Azad loyalists likely

Congress leadership has asked GA Mir, party’s J&K chief to visit New Delhi on Tuesday as Ghulam Nabi Azad loyalists made statements publicly in Jammu which goes against the party principles.

Reports state that the Congress leadership might discuss action against the Azad loyalists. There were reports that supporters of Azad, former leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, have now even stopped doing their allotted responsibilities. GA Mir complained about this issue to party high command and fixed a meeting to discuss the issue.

Earlier, the Congress stalwart praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “not hiding his true self”. It caused an uneasy situation within the party in J&K and leaders were divided into pro-and anti-Azad. Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Shahnawaz Choudhary led a protest against him. In this protest, the Congress workers raised slogans and burnt Azad’s effigy. Many Congress workers have also demanded action against the senior party leader.

Many workers of the party are alleging that his statement was meant for weakening the party in Jammu and Kashmir. A Congress worker said that if he was so concerned about the party, then he should have visited the Union Territory during District Development Council elections to campaign for Congress candidates.

Earlier when Azad was addressing members of the Gujjar community at an event in Jammu he had said that people must learn from Narendra Modi. “Even after becoming the Prime Minister, he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He proudly remembers that he was a ‘chai-wala’. Azad said that even though he has serious political differences with Narendra Modi” Azad had said.

As Azad’s term in the Rajya Sabha had ended, PM Narendra Modi had bid him a tearful farewell.
