Congress out of J&K government; party says unhappy over center not granting statehood

With the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah taking oath today, no Minister of Congress was part of the cabinet.

In a statement, the party has said that it was unhappy that center has not granted statehood to Jammu and Kashmir due to which it has decided not to be a part of the government.

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Chief Tariq Hameed Karra on Wednesday said that Congress Party has strongly demanded from the Centre to restore Statehood to J&K, besides the Prime Minister has time and again in public meetings promised the same.

“But the Statehood has not been restored to J&K, we are unhappy therefore we are not joining the Ministry at the moment, JKPCC Chief added and said Congress Party shall continue to fight for restoration of statehood” the statement read.
