Cop dismissed by SSP Kathua on charges of drug peddling

In a strict action reinforcing its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma,  has dismissed a cop Aftab Ahmed (Belt No. 498/K, PID No. EXJ-117525) R/o Pouni Tehsil & District Reasi from service for his involvement in a NDPS case, police said on Tuesday.

The dismissal follows a departmental enquiry linked to FIR No. 55/2026 U/S 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act registered at  PS Billawar. The Selection Grade Constable was apprehended during naka checking by a police team of PS Billawar, during which contraband heroin was recovered from his possession.

For this act of grave misconduct and indiscipline, he was placed “Under Suspension” with immediate effect vide DPO Kathua OB No. 229 of 2026 dated 08/04/2026. A departmental enquiry was initiated and entrusted to SP Ops. Upper Kathua for finalization under rules.

After conducting the enquiry, the Enquiry Officer furnished findings vide letter No. SP(Ops)DE/2026/258/SP dated 27/07/2026, stating that the charges leveled in the instant D.E. were found proved. The Enquiry Officer recommended that the delinquent official, namely SgCt Aftab Ahmed, be awarded the major penalty of “Dismissal from Service”.

Acting under Rule 335 of the J&K Police Rules, SSP Kathua Ms. Mohita Sharma, ordered his immediate dismissal in order to enforce strict institutional discipline and to serve as an exemplary deterrent to all ranks against any involvement in narcotics-related offences.
