Daily wagers in crisis due to untimely wages but money being squandered on functions in J&K

In the times where daily wage workers are complaining and battling for survival as they are not getting their wages in time because of shortage of funds but bureaucrats in Jammu and Kashmir are spending huge amount of money on functions.


Huge public money is being spent on various kinds of activities such as seminars, workshops and sports events. As per reports, on such events money is being spent on food like Wazwan and boarding and lodging of the invitees.

An official said that event management companies charge huge amount of money for conducting such events.

The worst hit is the daily wagers and contractual with no savings and are completely dependent on what they earn each day. They have been complaining since past three years that they are facing injustice over release of wages.

In such difficult times, such events are being held when the government employees have been complaining of alleged starvation due to delay in release of their wages. Some daily wage earners complained that they and their families are at the verge of starvation.


Even some even the permanent government employees haven’t received their salaries for the past many months in departments such as Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) and the J&K Cements Ltd.

Employees of the JK cements said that they have not received their salary for months whereas the JKPCC staff is paid wages after three months.

A senior official in the Civil Secretariat, “senior bureaucrats associated with departments do get their salaries in time but their subordinates have to suffer”.


Though Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is working to provide relief to all sections of employees but the careless attitude of the officials is undoing all his work.
