DC Doda asks officers to remove bottlenecks in construction of NHW-244

In a significant meeting, Deputy Commissioner Doda, Harvinder Singh, called Tehsildars and National Highway & Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) authorities to review the progress of work on NH244 in the district and discuss issues impeding progress.

It is worth mentioning here that the Chenani-Vailoo National Highway 244, connecting Chennai-Sudhmahadev-Anantnag, will serve as an alternative route for road transport, reducing travel expenses and distance by around 93 kilometers.

DC reviewed package wise detailed review of the works under execution in the jurisdiction of District Doda, by various agencies under NHIDCL. It was informed that Goha-Khellani Pakage-1 under execution of M/S Oasis- VIPL JY Infra Projects, is expected to be completed by 30th of March 2024. Goha-Khellani Pakage-2, under execution of M/S APCO Infratech Pvt Ltd, is expected to be completed by the end of January 2024. Similarly, Khellani bypass tunnel, Khellani- Chatroo Pakage-1 & Pakage-2 are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2024.

DC emphasised the importance of timely completion of mega projects and urged the concerned Tehsildars and stakeholders to submit the pert chart and monitor the progress, including issues arising on the ground so that the improved road infrastructure is dedicated to the public. Various bottlenecks and issues affecting progress were discussed, and the DC directed officers to take the matter seriously and find solutions. The meeting also discussed encroachments, rehabilitation of Pul Doda residents, court stay cases, demand for additional land for acquisition, disposal of debris, plantation on the new highway, and other issues.

The Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of coordination and dedication in resolving obstacles or issues that may impede progress on the ongoing mega project. DC asked the concerned to issue 3A for the acquisition of additional land demanded by the NHIDCL by the end of December 2023. He stressed the proper planning and management to ensure smooth traffic movement on the Highway during the ensuing winter season.
