DCs not conducting extensive tours of districts, govt orders mandatory 2 days visit

Deputy Commissioners of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have been given instructions through General Administration Department (GAD) several times to conduct extensive tours within their districts.

But even after getting directions several times from the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary, many Deputy Commissioners have not undertaken field visits of their respective districts.

Deputy Commissioners have also been directed to hold grievance redressal interaction with people in their respective offices for redressal of the complaints.

Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta emphasized that the Deputy Commissioners should ensure administration to door steps.

An order by Commissioner Secretary to the government, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi reads that instructions had been issued many times impressing upon, among others, the Deputy Commissioners to undertake extensive tours within their districts particularly the far flung, remote and difficult areas.

Taking serious concern over the issue government has fixed two days in a week for field visits by the heads of the districts. Deputy Commissioners have been instructed to submit copies of their tour notes to the GAD on quarterly basis which will help in evaluating the performance of the Deputy Commissioners.

Also, inspection of the government offices can be done and punctuality of the employees will be known by undertaking such tours and site visits.

The field visits by the Deputy Commissioners will surely resolve the grievances of the people particularly of remote and far-off areas.
