Delhi Police arrests two Jammu residents for Republic Day violence

Delhi Police have arrested two persons for allegedly being a part of the mob which caused violence at the Red Fort on Republic Day. One of these two is a prominent farmer leader from Jammu, officials said. Delhi Police said that Mohinder Singh (45), Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir United Kisan Front, and Mandeep Singh (23) were "active participants" and "key conspirators" in the violence at the historic fort. Mohinder Singh is a resident of Chatha area of Jammu city while Mandeep lives in Gole Gujral in Jammu. The Crime Branch of Delhi Police took both into custody on Monday night and immediately shifted to the national capital for questioning. They were caught with help of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Delhi Police Additional PRO, Anil Mittal said that they have received information that both the accused actively participated and were key conspirators in the riot at Red Fort on 26 January. Thousands of protesters had clashed with the police during the tractor parade called by farmer unions on January 26 demanding repeal of the Centre's farm laws. Many protesters reached the Red Fort on their tractors and entered the monument. His wife told reporters that Mohinder informed her that Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu) called him and he was going to Gandhi Nagar Police Station before his mobile got switched off. Later, she learned that her husband was arrested by police and shifted to Delhi. She claimed that when the violence took place at Red Fort on Republic Day, her husband was at the Delhi border.
