Even as the Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has asked the private schools neither to pressurize parents to purchase books and uniforms from specific shops nor to sell these directly, many schools are flouting the norms.

Education department has received many complaints from parents in Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Udhampur district in Jammu division and also from Kashmir division regarding the illicit practices being followed by private schools to earn profits.

Private schools are telling parents to purchase uniforms and books of their wards from specific shops from where they get commission. The illegal practice has been brought in front of the senior officials of Education department several times but due to unknown reasons no strict action is taken against schools involved in such practices.

Even courts have in the past ruled that no school can force parents to buy school books and uniform from specific shops. However the pleas of parents have so far fallen on the deaf ears of the officials of Education department.
