Essential items prices skyrocket in Kashmir, irks consumer

The sharp rise in prices of essential commodities in Kashmir is irking the consumers. The alleged failure of authorities to regulate the price of essential items has become a new headache for the consumers.

People of Kashmir are unable to manage their household budget as prices of fruits, vegetables and poultry are sky rocketing despite of notified rate list.

One of the local said that no check is being kept on prices of vegetables and poultry despite of notified rate list. Nasir Ahmad of Habak said that even fruits are being sold at different rates in Srianagar as a dozen of banana is sold at Rs. 80 in Khanyar and for Rs. 100 at Dalgate.

Even netizens have flooded social media with many videos where consumers were seen confronting sellers of sale of chicken at higher rates, recently.

Director of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Abdul Salaam Mir told Greater Kashmir that they have cracked down on the shopkeepers violating the government-designated rate list and no one will be spared for charging higher rates.

Mir further added that special teams are keeping a check on rates and many shops recently have been sealed for charging higher prices and violating rules. Further added that many poultry shops have been sealed who are charging higher prices for chicken and said that consumers can complaint in department of any violation in rate.
