Farooq Abdullah asks centre to clarify its stand on Iran strikes

National Conference president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Thursday called on the Government of India to clearly spell out its position on the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, warning that the situation could have serious global repercussions.

Speaking to reporters in Katra, Dr. Abdullah said the Centre should present its official stance on the developments in the Middle East. He cautioned that the rising tensions, if not handled carefully, could escalate into a broader international crisis.

He criticised the US-Israel strikes on Iran, saying no country has the right to impose its authority over another sovereign nation. He maintained that Iran is an independent country and termed the US attack unjustified.

Dr. Abdullah said invading another country is wrong and warned against attempts by powerful nations to dominate weaker states. Referring to previous global developments, he alleged that the United States had acted similarly in other parts of the world in the past.

He further warned that the consequences of the ongoing conflict could be felt worldwide. According to him, continued escalation could push the situation towards a much larger crisis and even raise the possibility of a Third World War if tensions are not reduced.
